Ingredient

Grape seed extract in ZenCortex: What the Label and the Research Say

Quick answer

Grape seed extract is the second of 22 lines in the ZenCortex Proprietary Herbal Blend. By label order it can weigh at most 100 mg per 1 mL serving, but no amount is printed. Small studies suggest lower blood pressure and LDL cholesterol, and none tests hearing. It has antiplatelet activity, so ask a doctor if you take warfarin.

The ingredient01

What is grape seed extract in ZenCortex?

Grape seed extract is a concentrate made from the seeds of wine grapes. ZenCortex lists it as "Grape (Vitis vinifera) Seed Extract", second in its 200 mg Proprietary Herbal Blend.

The extract is rich in polyphenols, plant compounds with antioxidant activity in the lab. The seller's info page leans on that idea with the line "Antioxidants protect the ear".

That line is a marketing claim. Memorial Sloan Kettering lists the purported uses as lowering cholesterol, reducing inflammation and treating atherosclerosis, and says other uses have not been studied (MSK, Grape Seed Extract). Ears are not on that list.

Label position02

How much grape seed extract is in ZenCortex?

The label does not print an amount. Because grape seed extract is line 2 of 22, label order caps it at 100 mg per serving.

The cap comes from the weight rule for blends (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36 Supplement Facts). Line 1, maca, weighs at least as much as line 2, so the two together cannot pass 200 mg. That leaves line 2 at 100 mg at the very most. An even split of the blend across 22 lines would be about 9.1 mg each, but the label sets no floor, so the real amount could be lower or higher than that.

At two droppers a day, the ceiling is 200 mg a day. The next section covers study doses.

Doses03

What dose of grape seed extract do studies use?

The Memorial Sloan Kettering page we cite gives no standard dose (MSK, Grape Seed Extract). We did not fetch a source for trial doses, so we do not quote one.

What we can do is the label arithmetic. At the 100 mg ceiling, two droppers a day give at most 200 mg of grape seed extract, and possibly far less. Any study dose should be compared to that range, not to the 200 mg blend.

The label also says nothing about how much of the extract is polyphenol. Two products with the same milligram weight can differ in strength, so the numbers cannot be lined up directly.

Evidence04

Does grape seed extract help hearing or circulation?

No study we found shows that grape seed extract helps hearing. Small human studies suggest it may lower LDL cholesterol, and meta-analyses suggest lower systolic blood pressure and heart rate (MSK, Grape Seed Extract).

The same page reports mixed results for blood fats, glucose and inflammation, and calls animal and lab findings preliminary. A change in blood pressure is not a change in hearing.

The NIDCD says supplements are often advertised for tinnitus, but none has been proven effective (NIDCD, Tinnitus). Treat circulation language on the info page as a reason to ask for a trial, not as proof.

Some signals

Lower LDL and systolic blood pressure in small studies.

Cautions05

Can you take grape seed extract with a blood thinner?

Ask your doctor first. In lab work grape seed extract has antiplatelet activity, so it may raise bleeding risk with warfarin and other anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs (MSK, Grape Seed Extract).

The page says the clinical relevance has not been determined, which means nobody knows how much it matters at a low dose. That is exactly why a pharmacist should see the bottle. NCCIH also asks you to tell providers about supplements before surgery, because some raise bleeding risk (NCCIH, Using Dietary Supplements Wisely).

Side effects are not reported for patients on the page, though the professional section lists stomach upset. In vitro, it may also affect liver enzymes that process some drugs.

Marketing check06

Is the grape seed antioxidant claim on the ZenCortex info page proven?

No. "Antioxidants protect the ear" is a sales-page line, and the bottle does not make it.

The bottle says only "Supports Healthy Hearing†", with the dagger pointing to the FDA statement that the claim has not been evaluated. FDA does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Dietary Supplements).

Antioxidant activity in a lab dish is a long way from protecting an ear in a person. Hearing protection that is proven is plain: lower the volume, wear earplugs in loud places and keep exposure under 85 dBA where you can (NIDCD, Noise-Induced Hearing Loss).

FAQ08

ZenCortex questions people ask

What does grape seed extract do in ZenCortex?

The label gives no purpose. The seller's info page says antioxidants protect the ear, which no source we found supports. Studies of the extract focus on blood pressure and LDL cholesterol, not hearing.

Is grape seed extract the same as resveratrol?

No. Grape seed extract is made from the seeds and is rich in polyphenols, while resveratrol is a different compound found mostly in grape skins. The ZenCortex label lists only the seed extract.

Does grape seed extract thin the blood?

In lab studies it shows antiplatelet activity, and Memorial Sloan Kettering says it may raise bleeding risk with warfarin. Its relevance in people is not determined. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use, and before surgery.

How much grape seed extract could one ZenCortex dropper hold?

At most 100 mg, because it is listed second. The label sets no floor, and an even split of the blend would be about 9.1 mg. The label prints no amount, so the real figure is unknown. Two droppers a day would double it.

Can grape seed extract lower blood pressure?

Meta-analyses cited by Memorial Sloan Kettering suggest lower systolic blood pressure and heart rate. If you take blood pressure medicine, ask your doctor before adding any supplement, and keep taking your medicine as prescribed.

Is grape seed extract safe for daily use?

Memorial Sloan Kettering lists no patient side effects, though stomach upset appears in its professional section. Long-term safety of this specific extract is not established in our sources, so check with a clinician.
