Grape Seed Extract: Antioxidant Claims and Limits
Grape seed extract is a polyphenol-rich concentrate made from grape seeds. Small human studies point to lower LDL cholesterol and systolic blood pressure, but none involve hearing. It is line 2 of the 22-line ZenCortex blend, so it can weigh at most 100 mg per dropper (MSK, Grape Seed Extract).

What is grape seed extract?
Grape seed extract is a concentrate of the plant compounds in grape seeds, mainly polyphenols. Supplement makers market it as an antioxidant.
The ZenCortex info page says "Antioxidants protect the ear". The bottle itself says only "Supports Healthy Hearing†". The word antioxidant describes a chemical behavior in a test tube, and it does not tell you what happens in an ear.
The label names it as Grape (Vitis vinifera) Seed Extract, in second place by weight.
What does the research on grape seed extract show?
Grape seed extract research is mostly about the heart and blood vessels. Memorial Sloan Kettering reports small human studies of lower LDL and antioxidant activity, and meta-analyses of lower systolic blood pressure and heart rate (MSK, Grape Seed Extract).
Results for cholesterol, glucose and inflammation are mixed. The page adds that other uses have not been studied. We found no trial of grape seed extract for hearing or tinnitus, and the NIDCD says no supplement has been proven to relieve tinnitus (NIDCD, Tinnitus).
| Outcome | What the source reports |
|---|---|
| LDL cholesterol | Small human studies suggest a drop |
| Systolic blood pressure | Meta-analyses suggest a drop |
| Glucose, inflammation | Mixed |
| Hearing | No study found |
How much grape seed extract is in ZenCortex?
The label does not say how much grape seed extract is in one dropper. It prints a single 200 mg total for 22 lines.
Lines run from most to least by weight (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36 Supplement Facts). Grape seed is line 2, so its ceiling is 200 divided by 2, which is 100 mg. An even split would give 9.1 mg, about one eleventh of that ceiling.
That gap is the whole story. The ceiling and the even split differ by a factor of 11, and nothing printed tells you which end is closer. The bar shows the 200 mg cut into 22 equal pieces, as an illustration only.

See packsIs grape seed extract safe with blood thinners?
It may not be. In lab work grape seed extract slows platelets, and the Sloan Kettering page says it may raise bleeding risk with warfarin and other anticoagulants or antiplatelets, though the real-world relevance is not determined (MSK, Grape Seed Extract).
Tell your care team about any drop-form supplement before surgery or a new prescription (NCCIH, Using Dietary Supplements Wisely). Keep taking prescribed medicine, and never skip a dose because of a supplement.

FAQ01
ZenCortex questions people ask
Can grape seed extract replace blood pressure medicine?
No. The small studies behind lower blood pressure were not tests of swapping out a prescription, and the label of ZenCortex makes no such claim. Keep taking prescribed medicine and ask your pharmacist before adding any extract (MSK, Grape Seed Extract).
Does grape seed extract lower blood pressure?
Meta-analyses summarized by Memorial Sloan Kettering suggest lower systolic blood pressure and heart rate with grape seed extract. That is a finding about study groups, not a promise for one person, and it says nothing about hearing (MSK, Grape Seed Extract).
Why is grape seed listed second on the ZenCortex label?
Federal label rules list blend ingredients from most to least by weight, so the second slot means only maca outweighs it. That sets a ceiling of 100 mg per dropper, but the actual amount is not printed (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36 Supplement Facts).
