Chromium Picolinate: What 0.7 mcg Actually Means

Quick answer

Chromium picolinate is a trace mineral bound to picolinic acid. ZenCortex prints 0.7 mcg of chromium per 1 mL serving, 2% of the Daily Value, outside the herbal blend. That is a very small amount, and no study we found ties chromium to hearing.

What is chromium picolinate?

Chromium picolinate is chromium, a trace mineral, joined to picolinic acid so it can be sold as a supplement. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements covers it in its chromium fact sheet (NIH ODS, Chromium fact sheet).

Chromium is mostly sold for blood sugar and weight. The same fact sheet says diabetes evidence is mixed, and a 2016 review found too little reason to recommend it. It lists no hearing use.

Our chromium picolinate profile gives the full evidence.

How much is 0.7 mcg of chromium picolinate?

It is a small amount: about 2% of the adequate intake for a man and under 3% for a woman. A mcg is a millionth of a gram.

The adequate intake for ages 19 to 50 is 35 mcg a day for men and 25 mcg for women (NIH ODS, Chromium fact sheet). Divide 0.7 by 35 and you get 0.02, the 2% the label prints. At two droppers a day you take 1.4 mcg, still about 4% of a man's figure.

Why is chromium printed outside the blend?

Chromium sits above the Proprietary Herbal Blend because it is listed on its own line with its own number. The 22 blend lines share one 200 mg total with no single amounts.

That makes chromium the only ingredient whose dose you can check. The bar below shows the 22 blend lines split evenly, an illustration, since the label prints no split (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36 Supplement Facts). Chromium is not in it.

200 mg blend · 22 lines · 0 single amounts printed · an even split would be about 9 mg each (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36 Supplement Facts)

Can chromium affect medicines?

Yes, in principle. Chromium may add to insulin and metformin in lowering blood sugar, and a small study found chromium picolinate reduced levothyroxine absorption when taken together (NIH ODS, Chromium fact sheet).

No Tolerable Upper Intake Level is set, yet case reports link large supplement amounts to kidney and liver problems. The ZenCortex amount is tiny, which lowers that worry but does not remove the question.

Keep taking prescribed medicine as directed, and tell your pharmacist you use a chromium-containing supplement.

Does chromium picolinate support hearing?

No study we found shows that. The bottle claims only "Supports Healthy Hearing†" for the whole formula, and chromium's studied uses are metabolic.

FDA does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Dietary Supplements), so a printed number is not a result. For the other lines, see the ingredients overview and the post on the proprietary herbal blend.

FAQ01

ZenCortex questions people ask

Is 0.7 mcg of chromium enough to matter?

It is about 2% of the 35 mcg adequate intake for men, so it is a trace. Whether any effect follows is unknown, and no study ties chromium at this amount to hearing.

Is chromium picolinate the same as chromium?

Chromium is the mineral. Picolinate is the form it is bound to. The label lists chromium (as chromium picolinate), so the 0.7 mcg counts the chromium itself.

Does chromium picolinate cause side effects at 0.7 mcg?

Case reports of kidney, liver and blood problems involve much larger supplement amounts (NIH ODS, Chromium fact sheet). At 0.7 mcg they are unlikely, but ask your doctor if you take diabetes or thyroid medicine.
