Hearing Loss and Memory: What Research Links and What It Cannot Show
Hearing loss and memory are linked: older adults with hearing loss have a higher dementia risk and faster memory decline, and hearing devices were tied to less decline (NIA, Hearing loss in older adults). The link is mostly observational. No trial shows that a supplement, ZenCortex included, protects memory.

How are hearing loss and memory linked?
Older adults with hearing loss have a higher risk of dementia, and their memory and concentration decline faster, according to the National Institute on Aging (NIA, Hearing loss in older adults).
People using hearing devices had a lower risk of long-term decline than people with uncorrected loss. That is a link between groups, not proof of cause.
Does treating hearing loss protect memory?
Only partly, and only in one group. The ACHIEVE trial gave nearly 1,000 adults aged 70 to 84 either hearing aids with training or a health-education program, and followed them for three years (NIH Research Matters, ACHIEVE hearing aid trial).
Across the full sample, cognitive decline did not differ. In a subgroup of about 250 people at higher dementia risk, hearing-aid users had almost a 50 percent lower rate of decline. The overall result was null, so the subgroup needs confirming.
| Type of evidence | What it can show |
|---|---|
| ACHIEVE, full sample | No difference in decline |
| ACHIEVE, higher-risk subgroup | Slower decline with hearing aids |
| Drops taken by mouth | No trial found |
Do ZenCortex memory claims have evidence?
No. The info page says "Strengthens Memory", and no trial of ZenCortex backs it. The bottle says only "Supports Healthy Hearing†".
Health claims need competent, reliable evidence, generally human trials of the same product (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance).

Get a hearing test and tell a doctor about memory changes (NIA, Age-related forgetfulness or dementia?). Keep taking prescribed medicine.
- Label front“SUPPORTS HEALTHY HEARING†”Structure/function wording with the FDA dagger. No trial of ZenCortex exists, and the NIDCD says vitamins, herbal extracts and supplements are often advertised for tinnitus but none has been proven effective. (FDA, Dietary Supplements) (NIDCD, Tinnitus)
- Label front“Hearing Support Formula”A name, not a measured property. The blend prints a 200 mg total and no single amount, so no line can be checked. (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36 Supplement Facts)

- Info page“Strengthens Memory, Sharpens Mental Acuity”Untreated hearing loss is linked with higher dementia risk, and hearing devices with slower decline. A link is not a treatment, and no memory trial of ZenCortex exists. (NIA, Hearing loss in older adults)

FAQ01
ZenCortex questions people ask
Can untreated hearing loss cause dementia?
Studies link the two, but a link is not proof of cause. ACHIEVE found slower decline with hearing aids only in a higher-risk subgroup, so the question remains open (NIH Research Matters, ACHIEVE hearing aid trial).
Is forgetting words a sign of hearing loss?
Not by itself. Occasionally struggling to find a word is typical with age. NIA advises seeing a doctor when memory slips interfere with daily life (NIA, Age-related forgetfulness or dementia?).
Does ZenCortex help memory?
No trial of the product exists for memory. The "Strengthens Memory" line is from the seller's info page, not the bottle, which claims only hearing support.
