Do Tinnitus Supplements Work? Evidence in Plain Terms

Quick answer

Do tinnitus supplements work? Not that anyone has proven. The NIDCD says vitamins, herbal extracts and supplements are often advertised for tinnitus, but none has been proven effective. Zinc and ginkgo have both been tested without showing a benefit. A clinician can look for a cause.

What does research say about tinnitus supplements?

Research says no supplement is proven for tinnitus. The NIDCD states it plainly: none of the vitamins, herbal extracts or supplements advertised for it has been proven effective (NIDCD, Tinnitus).

Tinnitus is a sound with no outside source, such as ringing or buzzing. It is chronic at three months or longer, and treating a physical cause can reduce it. Options with support include sound therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Our tinnitus basics guide covers causes and care in more depth.

Which tinnitus supplements have been tested?

Zinc and ginkgo are the two with clear results, and neither helped. A Cochrane review of three trials with 209 adults found no significant benefit from zinc (Cochrane, Zinc supplements for tinnitus).

NCCIH says research suggests ginkgo does not relieve tinnitus (NCCIH, Ginkgo). Other products have no trial we could verify. Absence of proof is not proof of harm or benefit, so treat them as unknown.

Which tinnitus claims hold up?

Few hold up. Phrases such as "natural relief" or "clinically tested formula" are not printed on the ZenCortex bottle, and they need trial evidence behind them.

Checked against the label images supplied for ZenCortex. Phrases marked "Not on the bottle" appear on the info page or in ads, not on the label itself. Structure/function wording needs the FDA statement, and drug claims are not allowed on supplements (FDA, Dietary Supplements).

Is there a best or top-rated tinnitus supplement?

No. A top five list would rank products on marketing, because no tinnitus supplement has won a trial. We do not rank brands.

See a clinician first if ringing is constant, in one ear only, or comes with dizziness or hearing loss; one-ear problems can signal something needing care. Keep taking prescribed medicine as directed, since some drugs affect the ear (ASHA, Ototoxic Medications).

FAQ01

ZenCortex questions people ask

Is there a tinnitus supplement that works?

None is proven. The NIDCD says no vitamin, herbal extract or supplement has been proven effective for tinnitus. Ask a clinician about sound therapy or behavioral therapy instead.

Do tinnitus supplements work for ringing after loud noise?

Short ringing after a loud event often fades. Constant ringing needs a hearing check. No supplement is shown to undo noise damage, and protecting your ears is the tested step (NIDCD, Noise-Induced Hearing Loss).

Why do tinnitus supplement ads show top 5 lists?

Because lists sell. A ranking needs head-to-head trials, and none exist for tinnitus supplements. The FTC says health claims need competent human evidence (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance).
